The figures shown here are daily per person expenditures in the U.S. and exclude airfare to/from the U.S. Remember that average stay of nearly 15 nights in the U.S. by our Caribbean neighbors? Well, multiply that by $106 per person per day and you've got some positive economic impact!South America's spending is steady and exceeds the average overseas visitor by a third, the European visitor by nearly two thirds! ($84, 61%).
We discussed pent up demand as it effected Mexican spending in 1996 and true to course that spending has moderated significantly in 1997. However, Mexico air travelers still outspend any European market and all Asian markets except Singapore, which has identical spending in 1997. When compared to particular South American markets, however....
