Tourism Industries International Travel and Forecast for the US -- Chart 2
Previous   Back to Index Page   Next
In 1997 the United States hosted nearly 48 million international visitors, thanks in large part to strong growth from our overseas markets, up 7%. This growth occurred despite Asia's faltering, which began in September 1997. We have now experienced two years of consecutive increases to put the U.S. back in record-breaking arrivals territory, a notable feat since we witnessed slight declines (-1%) in our first and second markets, Canada and Mexico, during this period! Our half year data and forecast for the remainder of 1998, however, suggest slower growth overall for 1998.
