Business travel totaled 2.9 million trips, an increase of 7% from last year and included the warm-climate destinations of California and Florida in the top three business destinations. However, these are not particularly high numbers of travelers: Florida business travel counts for only 6 percent of all business trips, suggesting that business is conducted in a wider variety of locations in the U.S.

VFR is most common along the border states as might be expected, capturing nearly four out of ten VFR visits.

More than 10.5 million vacation trips were registered in 1998. In the annual battle for dominance for the Canadian vacation market, Florida widened its lead over New York.
