Five states registered over half a million visitors even though all of them experienced decreased levels. California's loss of 3 percent is what put them in this second tier of visitation, but still strong. Nevada maintained its strong position reflecting the benefits of being a predominantly air travel destination for Canadians. New England states took a big "hit" in percentage losses, but Maine and Vermont still kept their positioning of over half a million visitors. Last year there were eight states claiming this ranking, so the country's loss was felt widely.
