Understanding the Shifts in the 2012 Overseas Travel to the United States

The U.S. Department of Commerce's National Travel and Tourism Office (NTTO) and the Global Travel and Tourism Team will present a webinar on shifts in travel patterns and characteristics of overseas travelers who visited the U.S. with the impact on U.S. destinations and businesses in 2012.
Overseas travel to the United States totaled a record 29.8 million visitors in 2012, up seven percent. Travel from 22 countries set records, however six of the larger countries accounted for declines in inbound visitation. Changes in the number of arrivals affected U.S. destinations and their travel and tourism businesses/sectors.
Significant changes in traveler characteristics and travel patterns also affected destinations and specific travel and tourism businesses/sectors. The year witnessed shifts in the purpose of trip, first time visits, the number of destinations visited, use of packages, port-of-entry, length of stay and others. During this webinar, you will learn more about these shifts and their effects on the nation's top destinations. The presentation will review overall 2012 overseas travel and focus on the sources of changes.
A synopsis of the Survey of International Air Travelers (SIAT) program and its 2012 questionnaire change will also be addressed.
