OTTI welcomes four new staff members

The Office of Travel & Tourism Industries is delighted to inform the industry of the addition of four new staff members. The additions include two research analysts, an international trade specialist, and a policy analyst. The new staff includes:

Brian Beall (Policy analyst) joins OTTI with a background in tourism policy and international tourism development. Brian is concurrently finishing his Master of Tourism Administration at The George Washington University. Prior to Commerce, Brian was a joint-Research Assistant with the GW International Institute of Tourism Studies and Citizens Development Corps focused on global tourism development initiatives. Brian is fluent in French.

Mark Brown (Senior market research analyst) joins OTTI with an extensive background in economic development, marketing research, and travel and tourism promotion and research. Mark’s public sector experience includes eight years as the Research Director for the Virginia state tourism office. His private sector experience includes research management positions with several leading travel research companies, including TNS and D.K. Shifflet.

John Terpening (Market research analyst/economist) joins OTTI after working as an economist for the Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA) estimating direct investment abroad. Previously, he worked at USDA’s Economic Research Service (ERS) and served ten years in the military. John studied economics and public policy at The College of William and Mary, and he is working toward his PhD in philosophy. John is conversant in German.

Cynthia Warshaw (International trade specialist) comes to us from PKF Consulting, Inc. where she worked in hotel investment analysis, attraction development consulting, and international tourism market research. Her eight years of tourism industry experience includes both domestic tourism development as well as international tourism promotion in Panama, Costa Rica, and Brazil. Cynthia is fluent in Portuguese, French and Spanish and has a Masters degree from The George Washington University International Institute of Tourism Studies.
