U.S. Summer Bookings Grew – Did your Destination?
Summer bookings to the U.S. grew, according to the latest Travel
Barometer report. Did bookings grow to your destination?
The Office of Travel and Tourism Industries produced the latest
UK, German, and Mexico Travel Barometer reports. These subscription-based
reports provided subscribers with the anticipated growth in bookings
for summer travel from the United Kingdom, Germany, and Mexico to
the U.S. and to subscriber destinations (states and cities).
Snapshots of projected summer bookings, for travel to the United
States, were available in July 2004. A synopsis of finalized summer
bookings, available in October 2004, are listed below. (Actual travel
data subsequently reported by OTTI in December 2004 is also noted):
United Kingdom Travel Barometer:
Summer bookings to the U.S. were reported up10 to 15 percent, compared
to last year.
(Actual arrivals for 3Q were up almost 10 percent.)
German Travel Barometer:
Summer bookings reported increases from four to nine percent, compared
to summer 2003. (Actual visitation for 3Q was up eight percent.)
Mexico Travel Barometer:
Summer bookings ranged from flat to up 1 - 3 percent, compared to
last summer.
(The actual number of Mexican visitors traveling to the U.S. interior
was up by almost four percent in 3Q.)
Bookings to your destination?
The next Travel Barometer survey will report year-end 2004 bookings
and predict bookings for the first half of 2005. This timely report
will be released in early February! This is the time to subscribe.

The U.S. Department of Commerce, Office of Travel and Tourism Industries,
Travel Barometer program provides timely answers to critical questions
regarding visitor arrival shifts from the United Kingdom, Germany,
Mexico, and Japan (starting in January). The Barometer is a qualitative
survey collecting input from active travel trade working in-country
to sell and promote travel to the United States. The program reports
bookings/travel by quarter, predicts bookings/travel six months
out, and reports on market conditions. It is the timeliest destination-specific
indicator on the change in international (United Kingdom, Germany,
Mexico, and Japan) visitor arrivals available.
