=== TINEWS =================================== May 21, 2004 Contact: Office of Travel and Tourism Industries DOC Announces 2004 MDCP Grant Award Competition Details On May 19, 2004 the U.S. Department of Commerce published in the Federal Register the announcement for this year's Market Development Cooperator Program (MDCP) grant award competition. This year, the applications will be due on July 14, 2004. For further information on the schedule or for an application, please go to the MDCP website at: http://www.ita.doc.gov/td/mdcp An MDCP kick-off meeting is planned for Wednesday June 23, 2004 at 10:00 a.m. in room 6059 of the Herbert Clark Hoover Building, 14th and Constitution Avenue N.W., in Washington D.C. to discuss the program and application preparation. Your participation is highly recommended. For more information on this meeting please refer to the MDCP website. Travel and tourism grant applications will be in competition with all other sectors of the U.S. economy. Total funds available for grant proposals are usually around $2 million. On the MDCP web site pages, past award winners are announced, and there are numerous links that provide detailed information to assist you in the development of your proposal. The tourism industry has had several grants awards. Travel South USA, the Los Angeles Convention & Visitors Bureau, and the Western States Tourism Policy Council were all awarded grants from the MDCP. The Office of Travel and Tourism Industries would like to encourage travel and tourism organizations to apply for this year's awards as well. Send an e-mail to: MDCPMail@ita.doc.gov. Type "Add me to your list" in the subject line and MDCP will ensure that you receive any e-mails about MDCP that are sent periodically to potential applicants. The Office of Travel and Tourism Industries, along with the U.S. Commercial Service are available for limited assistance with market background and plan suggestions for this grant, as long as it is within the official MDCP guidelines. You are encouraged to use these resources to show the public/private partnership links. Please visit the ITA web sites as well when developing your proposals.
