The Joint Ventures: Partners in Stewardship conference is less than three months away, and we hope that you too will become part of the growing enthusiasm for this event among the partners and land managers across the country. In the past, conferences of this magnitude have focused on federal agency participation. However, this conference will have a majority of non-federal attendees to encourage communication, cooperation, and collaboration with our partners.

Because the government wants the private sector to play an important role in the public lands community and the future of public lands, we are issuing this release to ask you to consider attending this conference.

Scheduled for November 17-20, 2003, in Los Angeles, this conference is a unique gathering, bringing together the leadership of the five land managing bureaus in the Department of the Interior, the U.S.D.A. Forest Service and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, along with hundreds of partner organizations. This is an incredible opportunity for “one-stop shopping” with the federal public land leadership and partner groups of all sizes. Participants will benefit from both the networking opportunities and from 300 skill-building educational sessions, training, and diagnostic sessions.

Six hotels in downtown Los Angeles, each convenient to the convention center, have offered special $99 per night rates for conference participants. Free daily bus service is also available from each hotel to the convention center. Hotel reservation information is on-line at the conference web site.
The conference includes a two-day Expo featuring more than 200 commercial and non-commercial vendors offering the highest quality products to the public lands community. Tuesday night, November 18, includes a free reception for conference participants at the Expo Hall, and additional conference time will be available for meeting the vendors. If you’re interested in exhibiting at the Expo should contact jv2003@qbsevents.com.

Conference participants have the opportunity to participate in a poster and display gallery focusing on partnerships. Information on the gallery is available on the conference web site.

Participants will be able to schedule individual appointments with experts in every aspect of partnering in the conference’s diagnostic lab.

Conference participants will also participate in several exciting evening social events that showcase the best of Los Angeles and provide another opportunity for meeting agency and private sector partners in a relaxed setting. On Wednesday, for a modest fee, attendees can choose from among receptions at the California Science Center, the Gene Autry Museum of Western Heritage, the Japanese-American Museum, and the Universal Studios City Walk Tour. The closing reception on Thursday evening will be held in the historic El Pueblo de Los Angeles and is sponsored by the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power.
