Increase in Summer Travel Predicted for UK, Germany, and Brazil

The Office of Travel and Tourism Industries released the latest results from the Travel Barometer program.

-United Kingdom Travel Barometer: second quarter bookings reported to be up. Third and fourth quarter travel demand was predicted to increase, compared to 2002.
-German Travel Barometer: second quarter bookings reported to be up slightly. Third and fourth quarter travel demand was predicted to increase, compared to 2002.
-Brazil Travel Barometer: second quarter travel was reported to be down. However, summer travel demand was predicted to increase, compared to last year.

Each quarterly survey:
-Predicts travel demand for third and fourth quarter 2003 for the U.S. and select destinations
-Reports bookings for second quarter 2003 for the U.S. and select destinations
-Reports current inquiries for travel to the U.S.
-Predicts package demand for third and fourth quarter 2003
-Predicts FIT demand for third and fourth quarter 2003
-Reports competitive demand – top competitive destinations for long-haul travel
-Highlights barriers to travel – ranked and top barriers, i.e. SARS, the war on terrorism, visa processing, etc.
-Focuses actions needed to increase travel demand – ranked and top actions, i.e. improved exchange rate, stronger U.S. promotions, improved economies, etc.

The 2003 Travel Barometer Survey is a qualitative survey designed to reliably predict current and short-term market growth and trends. The UK and Brazil program derives input from active British and Brazilian (respectively) travel trade working in-country to sell and promote travel to the United States.

The German travel Barometer program derives input only from German tour operators. The USDOC, ITA, OTTI conducts the quarterly Travel Barometer in conjunction with the U.S. Commercial Service – Germany, UK, and Brazil and with support from the UK, German and Brazil Visit USA Associations.

Subscriptions are available for each country based on four consecutive quarterly survey’s:
Core Subscription: $800 (USD)
Destination Subscription $2,500 (USD)
Customized Subscription $4,999 (USD)

Subscriptions are available at any time. Some restrictions apply to the Destination and Customized Subscriptions.
