International Travel Receipts And Payments Program

Program Description

  What is it?
A tabular summary of inbound and outbound travel- and transportation- related receipts, payments and travel trade balance for major world regions and selected countries, updated quarterly and posted annually. Written analysis provided with annual update.
  What information is presented?
Receipts
Spending by international visitors in the U.S. on lodging, food, entertainment, etc.
Spending by international visitors on transportation to the U.S. on U.S. flag carriers.
Payments
Spending by U.S. citizens outside the U.S. on travel-related expenses such as lodging, food, entertainment, etc.
Spending by U.S. citizens traveling outside the U.S. on foreign flag carriers, etc.
Travel Trade Balance
Difference between receipts (total) and payments (total) to formulate a travel surplus/deficit.
  How is the information collected?

Data are provided to Tourism Industries by the Bureau of Economic Analysis, which derives the figures from the following:

  • Tourism Industries' In-Flight Survey of International Air Travel to and from the United States
  • Tourism Industries' Summary of International Travel to the U.S. (I-94)
  • Tourism Industries' U.S. International Air Travel Statistics (I-92)
  • Statistics Canada
  • Banco de Mexico/SECTUR

Tabular data are developed quarterly but posted annually. Written analyses accompanies the annual report.
