CANADIAN TRAVEL TO THE UNITED STATES

Data Tables Available by State Destination

The U.S. Department of Commerce announces state-level detailed data on Canadian travel to the United States for 2007 is now available on the Office of Travel and Tourism Industries website. Visitor volume estimates are provided for the following travel attributes:

Visitors and visitor nights Trip Purpose
Spending in the U.S. Activities

Province of residence

Activities
Mode of transportation Stay length
Accommodations Quarter of visit

For each attribute, visitor volume is provided for nine census regions and 21 states meeting the minimum requirement 400 sample size.

Historical data for years 2004 – 2006 and annual visitor profile reports are available at the same website location.

HIGHLIGHTS: 2007 Canadian Visitors to the United States

  • Each of nine regions and 18 of 21 states had visitor increases in 2007 over 2006 levels.
  • The top five destination states were New York, Florida, Washington, Michigan, and California
  • Florida accounted for 14% of visitors, but 33% of visitor nights.
  • Ontario is the #1 origin province—producing 8.1 million and 46 percent of all visitors.
