Research data supports declines in visitation to states and cities

In an effort to provide insights on the changes in the market that affect the destinations visited in the United States, the staff at Tourism Industries (TI) has developed an information piece that may help destinations explain why there were declines in their overseas visitation between 1997 and 1998. We hope that once you review this document, you will understand why many of the destinations saw declines in 1998. The information is based upon TI research data. In addition to the declines in arrivals, there were changes in the traveler characteristics data that also support the declines.

The information piece is called: An Analysis of the Behavioral Shifts in the Overseas Travel Market to the United States: To Help Explain the Declines Reported in Visitation to the States and Cities.

TI recommends that you also visit the market profiles section of our web site and print the 14 country profiles. The changes in the traveler characteristics referenced have been taken from the country profiles, not the world regions.
