The American Pathways 2000 partners are pleased to announce that Alamo
Rent A Car will sponsor the American Pathways 2000 web page. This web
page will feature tour itineraries sponsored under the American Pathways
2000 program, created to encourage the development and sales of American
cultural/heritage products and assist in the export of those products.
The web page, to be designed and developed by Alamo, will have its own URL
address. It will highlight all the itineraries which are designated under
the American Pathways 2000 criteria. Users of the page will be able to
search the database by theme, region, and dates of itineraries to find the
itineraries that interest them. Contact information will be included for
each itinerary. The web page will be available 24 hours a day, 7 days a
week.
As part of First Lady Hillary Rodham Clinton's White House Millennium
Program, American Pathways 2000 is a public-private partnership, designed
to celebrate the "American experience" as we end the 20th century and
begin a new millennium. American Pathways 2000 offers a unique challenge
to tour operators, working in conjunction with destination marketers, to
develop and submit itineraries utilizing one of four official American
Pathways 2000 themes: From Sea to Shining Sea, I Have a Dream, Lady
Liberty, and America's Cultural Mosaic. Designations of the itineraries
will be announced later this spring. The web page will be launched in
conjunction with that announcement.
In addition to Alamo joining the campaign, representatives of six media
organizations have volunteered to serve on an American Pathways 2000
Communications Panel formed by the Pathways partners to help develop a
coordinated strategy for publicizing the designation of the Pathways
itineraries. Representatives of American Visions, Courier Magazine,
Destinations Magazine, National Geographic Traveler, Travel Agent
Magazine, and Travel & Leisure will meet with the partners on May 5th to
discuss ways to highlight the designated itineraries.
In November 1998, American Pathways 2000 was launched by the U.S.
Department of Commerce's Office of Tourism Industries, the International
Association of Convention and Visitor Bureaus, and the National Tour
Association. They have subsequently been joined by the American Bus
Association, the U.S. Tour Operators Association, and the Receptive
Services Association. Applications for itineraries to be designated as
American Pathways 2000 itineraries are due on April 15th. For more
information on the program, go to http://tinet.ita.doc.gov and click on
the American Pathways logo or call Linda Harbaugh at (202) 482-2404.
