TI has updated the monthly section OF OUR WEBSITE TO INCLUDE the
preliminary January-July 1998 U.S. citizen international outbound air
traffic summary data from the I-92 data base. Please visit this area
monthly to keep up-to-date on U.S. citizen outbound travel. You can find
this information at: http://tinet.ita.doc.gov
Once you enter the TI website, one way to view the new monthly summary is
to click on the "Monthly Tourism Statistics" icon. Then, scroll down and
click on the "U.S. Outbound Travel by World Regions." You will see that
1996, 1997, and 1998 summary data are posted. To see this year's monthly
data, click on the 1998. If you visit this site monthly, you will see the
next months' data as we build the page, month by month, to display all of
the 1998 data.
The website release is ONLY a summary of the 1998 monthly data issued in
TI's "U.S. International Air Travel Statistics Report." This in-depth
statistical report is sold to subscribers. In addition to providing U.S.
citizen outbound data by world region, the full report provides numerous
subsets of air traffic figures for U.S. international arrival and
departure flights.
The information collected is obtained from the Immigration and
Naturalization Service (INS) I-92 form. This form must be completed by all
U.S. and foreign flag carriers who have United States international
arrival or departure flights (excluding Canada). The I-92 provides air
traffic data on the number of passengers by:
1. country,
2. airport,
3. scheduled flights,
4. charter flights,
5. U.S. flag airlines,
6. foreign flag carriers,
7. citizens and
8. non-citizens.
In fact, this is the ONLY U.S. government data base to provide estimates
on U.S. citizen departures on an ongoing basis. There are arrivals and
departures data on almost 120 countries, up to 90 U.S. airports, and over
280 non-U.S. airports.
Subscribers to this report include airlines, airport authorities,
consultants, national tourism offices, aircraft manufacturers,
universities, and convention & visitor bureaus. If you want to understand
the international air traffic to and from the United States, this report
is for you.
