Comments must be submitted by July 10, 1998 to comply with the review
process set-up by the Paperwork Reduction Act of 1995. This Act tries to
reduce the burden the government places upon the public for surveys
conducted by federal agencies.
As a result, Tourism Industries is required to submit a statistical
clearance package to the Office of Management and Budget (OMB). The
package must be submitted to obtain permission to continue the program. If
OMB decides the money provided by the Federal Government for the In-Flight
Survey is not helping the tax payer, they terminate the program, thus
reducing government survey burden on the public.
OMB uses the Federal Register to allow the public to comment on items it is
reviewing. I know you all read the Federal Register, but just in case,
below is information on how to find this notice and a summary of what you
will be asked to provide comments on.
In the Federal Register: May 11, 1998 (Volume 63, Number 90)] [Under:
Notices], [Page 25815-25816], [DOCID: fr11my98-30]. The U.S. Department of
Commerce, International Trade Administration issued a request for comments
on the TI's In-Flight Survey. TI cannot conduct the In-Flight Survey
program unless it obtains approval through this Office of Management and
Budget (OMB) Clearance Process. The actual notice can be found on-line
from the Federal Register Online via GPO Access web site at:
http://www.access.gpo.gov/su_docs/aces/aces140.html
Once you type in the address above, you will see the "National Archives and
Records Administration - Federal Register Online via GPO Access." To see
the actual notice you will need to complete the following steps:
1. In the Federal Register Volume, ensure the 1998 Federal Register is
checked.
2. Under the "Federal Register Sections" check the "Notices" section.
3. Under "Issue Date" in the "Data Range: From and to: Enter 5/10/98 to:
5/12/98."
4. On the "Search Terms:" enter the following as seen, be sure to use the
quotes: "International Trade Administration" AND Information Collection.
Then submit the search.
When the search is completed you will find a reference to: [DOCID:
fr11my98-30]. Click on the "Text" and you will have the actual OMB
clearance notice for Tourism Industries In-Flight Survey.
Please review the information contained in the document. You will be asked
to provide comments on: (a) Whether the proposed collection of information
is necessary for the proper performance of the functions of the agency,
including whether the information shall have practical utility; (b) the
accuracy of the agency's estimate of the burden [[Page 25816]] (including
hours and cost) of the proposed collection of information;(c) ways to
enhance the quality, utility, and clarity of the information to be
collected; and (d) ways to minimize the burden of the collection of
information on respondents, including through the use of automated
collection techniques or other forms of information technology.
Comments submitted in response to this notice will be summarized and/or
included in the request for OMB approval of this information collection;
they also will become a matter of public record.
DATES: Written comments must be submitted on or before July 10, 1998. Do
not send your comments to TI.
