Attend Services 2002: A Business-Government Dialogue on U.S. Trade Expansion Objectives
The new Deputy Assistant Secretary for Service Industries, Tourism and Finance, Douglas B. Baker would like to formally invite all Tinews subscribers to attend Services 2002. This year's conference will explore opportunities for increased market access offered by the General Agreement on Trade in Services (GATS) negotiations of the World Trade Organization. In particular, the conference is meant to give U.S. service industries the opportunity to help shape the U.S. negotiating agenda through industry-specific roundtables and dialogue.
Below is the formal invitation letter from Douglas B. Baker, Deputy Assistant Secretary. If you are interested in attending, specific information and a registration form can be found on TInet:
January 4, 2002
Consequently, U.S. services providers and those employed in the services sector have a direct and considerable stake in an expanded General Agreement on Trade in Services (GATS). The global foreign markets offer incredibly bright prospects for future export growth and for the creation of new jobs by U.S. companies providing services internationally.
During the conference, the participants will have the opportunity to discuss building the international services trade regime in GATS with senior government officials, and industry experts will share their wealth of experience in services trade.
Enclosed herewith, please find an announcement and registration form for the conference. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the Office of Service Industries at (202) 482-3575.
We look forward to seeing you at SERVICES 2002.
