Mexico (Air) Visitor Market Profile Released:
The outlook for Mexican visitors to the U.S. is very bright over the next
three years, making Mexico a top market for US travel and tourism exports.
In the Mexico Outreach Page, recently posted on TInet, Tourism Industries
released the latest Mexican (Air) Visitor Profile. The profile highlights
Mexico's record 1.5 million air arrivals to the United States, a 5%
increase from 1998. The profile also shows that over the past 5 years,
Mexican air arrivals has grown 67% reflecting the growing economic
stability in the Mexican economy. The profile also has key traveler
characteristics and top destinations visited by Mexican air travelers.
The profile reports that total Mexican arrivals to the U.S. reached 9.9
million in 1999, the highest level since 1994. In the "Forecast" (located
on the Mexico page) the tables show that overall, the Mexican economy grew
3.7% in 1999, down from 4.8% in 1998, but above market expectations. In
addition to the positive effect this had on income levels, the price
environment was favorable to Mexican travel to the US. Unemployment
continues to be low (2.5%), the lowest since 1987, reflecting the last
three years of economic health in Mexico. We have forecasted consistent
arrivals growth over the forecast period (2000 - 2003) as the peso remains
relatively stable and real per capita income increases at a rate of
approximately 3% per year to recoup to a previous peak of 11.4 million
visitors or 15% growth from 1999 by 2003.
The Mexico Outreach page also points out that the U.S. is clearly the
favored destination for Mexican travelers. The Mexico Commercial Service,
In-Market Insight (IMI) explains that there are several factors that
account for this preference: proximity; the strong business ties between
the two countries; the presence of large Mexican communities in the U.S.;
the accessibility of reaching the U.S. through a large number of direct
flights; and a wide variety of attractions and services.
Mexico Sales Mission 2000 - Make the most of the second largest visitor
market:
From August 21st through August 25th 2000, through a joint effort between
the U.S. Commercial Service in Mexico and the CONEX Group, there will be a
Sales Mission in four of the largest tourism exporting markets from Mexico
to the USA. Through a series of Workshops and Breakfast
Presentations/Mini Trade Shows, Travel Agents, Tour Operators and
Wholesalers will have an opportunity to meet with USA tourism suppliers in
the cities of Monterrey, Guadalajara, Mexico City and Queretaro.
